It's over. It was great fun to dig out all our decorations, update all the table names etc. (to reflect the new 'Group' identity) and get back to the Elea for 'the return of Burns Night'. But it felt rather strange too. We have only missed a year but it honestly feels like we've missed decades. It took a while to remember how we did things - though of course the core of the evening was safe with Doug, Ken, Irene & Don - there were a few niggly issues that we are determined to improve on, however, it was a good (re)start. Thank you for the positive feedback and your understanding that with restrictions on how many people we were allowed in a particular area and worries regarding the safety of singing too much (especially in the enthusiastic way we do), not to mention whether we'd be allowed to carry on at all, we couldn't invest quite so much in the evening as we would like... but at least we feel we are back in business. More pictures can be found via the 'Past Events' page or by clicking HERE . Our next event is our Members Meeting - not quite the AGM (we are not a Society any more so we can't officially hold one) but with just as much good food! We really want to make sure that we are only contacting the people who want to be in the Group. Hopefully we can use the meeting to start 'ratifying' the membership which has been difficult to establish without dance sessions & events. If you haven't received an email about the Members Meeting use the form on the contacts page to let me know and I'll send you the information, or see HERE

It has been impossible to motivate myself enough to add to these blethers for a long time. The ongoing prohibiting of dancing due to Covid has meant that the connecting core running through the group was missing, however the successful Christmas quiz night/get together held at the Elea last year showed that members and friends are keen to keep the Group going. The energy is starting to flow again and after nervous moments when the last government announcements were made it's now all steam ahead for Burns Night. We are limited to 50 seats only so it was only fair that members and previous attendees should be given first option but there are still a few seats left so hopefully we may see some new faces too. If you haven't already contacted Irene to be added to the list it's advisable to do it soon! If you'd like to see what previous Burns Night Celebrations were like click the link HERE or search via the Past Events page above. If you can't make the Burns Night but are interested in the St Andrew Group there is to be a Group meeting (in place of the annual Society AGM) at the UKCA on 19th March, for an amazing €8 including welcome tea/coffee and a meal. More information will follow. |
