Advancing your Dancing - more about this class
Many people get to a level of competence and are happy to just stick with that - their footwork isn't great, their timing leads a lot to be desired and they wouldn't know a rondel if it jumped up and down in front of them but that is absolutely fine.... Scottish Country Dancing can be enjoyed at many levels, it's about joining in, having a feel for the music and as long as you are approximately in the right place at the right time for the formations to work - your fellow dancers are not bothered about what your feet are doing, however......
If you'd like to acheive a little more; maybe you've started to feel how the patterns in the dances work and get a thrill if you see a dance done really well, maybe you just love to dance and have realized there is more to SCD than can be covered in the general class, maybe you've danced for years and you'd like to dance with a more advanced group for a change, maybe (I can dream) maybe you want to improve your footwork,.... then this is the class for you.

We don't spend all the time doing footwork!
We do teach the steps - and transitions between steps and lots of other stuff - it gives you a chance to practice but it's not a competition and no-one gets cross if you just can't get it! Very few people can achieve perfect footwork (though a few of them think they have!) especially if you come to this sort of dancing later in life, however having the chance to go through the steps for even a short time, outside of an actual dance, can work wonders and give you lots of confidence on the dance floor.
We don't just do incredibly complicated dances
We actually do a mix of dances - some of the dances are very simple ones - but just because they are simple doesn't mean they are necessarily done well. Dancing with a set who all know how to (or at least are trying to) cover, phrase, anticipate and hand correctly can make the simplest dance wonderful to do. We do use the opportunity to do more challenging dances too of course.
We don't just do really obscure formations
Formations or figures are what a Scottish Country Dance is made up of. There is no point just doing obscure figures without being rock solid in the more common ones, therefore time is taken to do both. This class is an ideal place to learn the less common figures, it is also a great place to learn how to do the more common ones correctly.
