Although it might seem that everything is very quiet during the summer break there is a fair amount of energy and ideas bubbling around under the surface and negotiations have been going on to bring a sponsor on board for the two biggest events of our calender the St Andrew's Ball in November and, of course, Burns' Night in January. We'd like to welcome a new and very generous sponsor in the shape of Blevins Franks the International Tax & Wealth Management company. Blevins Franks have branches here in Paphos as well as an impressive number of areas in Europe - you can check out their website at http://www.blevinsfranks.com/ if you want to see what they do. With all this interest and hard work going on around me it has made me knuckle down and complete the dance program for the St Andrew's Ball; there are so many lovely dances it is never difficult to find dances to do, the difficulty is deciding what not to do. The dance program will be posted on the St Andrew's Ball page, found under Events by the end of the week.
Over half way through the summer dance course and we've now got the Tuesday Class restart date on the horizon. People are e-mailing with suggestions, requests or just to touch base and say they are here (or when they will be here) and to make sure all is well for the start. The committee have organized a pre-season get together (details on the Events page) and there is a bit of a buzz in the air despite it still being so hot that you think twice about walking outside for more than 5 minutes.
It's great to see the level of anticipation. Life is very busy, birthday's, photography/Photoshop work, family visiting, computer tutorials, and lots and lots of gardening etc are all taking up time but dancing is always there in the background. After a hectic few weeks with Kerry & her family my first 'beginner's' class at the UKCA seems to have arrived really quickly - it's August already! Unbelievable! Although, as usually happens, we didn't have many of the folk who had initially seemed enthusiastic we did manage to get a set together and as a learning experience it was very useful - more breaks when it's this hot seems to be the most important one! I know that we are going to have a greater number of dancers next week because several people are back from holiday so I am quite happy to have had a 'slow' initial class, role on next week.
