St Andrew's Ball Date - Wednesday 25th November 2026 Time - 6:30 pm for 7:00 pm Venue - The Kamares Club, Kamares Village, Tala (you can find directions at the bottom of the page) Cost - €35 Dress code - Formal, Smart or National (bring flattish shoes to join in with the dancing). Take part in the 'Grand March', enjoy a lovely Buffet Meal and join in with the Scottish Country Dancing (All dances, simple, advanced, slow or fast are walked through & called if necessary) - see Past Events via the link above to see pictures & reports of previous balls, and contact Jenny Tel/WhatsApp 99937257 or Fiona 99779225 for information and bookings. |
St Andrew Group Ball 2026 Dance Programme :- Don't Panic! We don't do them all! We usually have time for 10 to 12 dances which this year will be selected from the list below:- Note that Jigs & Reels are fast, Strathspeys are slow and the colour code gives a quick indication of which dances you should try. Pale Green = Easy, everyone will be able to do it, even if your partner doesn't know it either : Dark Green = If you don't know it, but have a partner who does, you'll be fine. Purple = Easy for dancers who know the simpler formations e.g. Lady's Chain, Reels of 3 or Rights & Lefts: Red = only do it if you know it!

Opening Dance - And For the Young Ones - is very simple, there's no spinning and everyone can enjoy it!

Welcome to the Dance - Jig: very simple but fun around the room dance
Devil's Elbow - Reel: a 'Class Dance' - try it only if everyone else in the set knows it!
The Ring of Brodgar - Strathspey: it's slower & very easy to do with a partner who knows it.
Waratah Weaver - Jig: very, very easy, one for everyone
The Gay Gordons - March: classic ceilidh 'couple's dance' - the last 2 videos show it best
Paisley Weavers - Strathspey: easy for regular dancers, but too complicated if you don't dance.
Good Hearted Glasgow - Jig: quite fast but an easy dance that anyone can try
Scotch Mixer - Reel/Walking: lots of fun for everybody - no-one should be sitting out for this!
Mairi's Wedding - Reel: a 'Class Dance' - enjoy watching if you haven't been to the classes.
Dashing White Sergeant - Reel: well known 'around the room' dance great fun for everyone
Postie's Jig - Jig: fabulous dance but fast, only try if the rest of the set know it - otherwise sit out!
The Dream Catcher - Strathspey: If you've danced before e.g. you know how to do a 'reel of 4' & 'rights & lefts', you'll enjoy this - otherwise enjoy watching, and the lovely music.
Eva Three Step - March: another ceilidh 'couple's dance', simple to learn & do.
Reel of the 51st Division - Reel: a 'Class Dance' but not a difficult one - as long as you're fit!
Barley Bree - Jig - a dance that's 100's of years old & still done because it's great for everyone
Butterscotch & Honey - Strathspey: it's slow - easy to dance if you have a partner who knows it.
St Bernard's Waltz - Waltz another well known ceilidh 'couple's dance', simple to learn & do.
Highland Rambler - Reel: Okay for most people with a partner who knows it
Johnnie Walker - Medley: A class favourite but better to watch unless everyone else knows it.
Waltz Country Dance - Waltz: Some spinning for the ladies so not for everyone but a pretty dance that most people will enjoy

How to find the Kamares Clubhouse ... note that it is situated below street level so keep an eye out for their sign or you may not spot it! It is next to the Kamares (IASIS) Medical Centre which is much easier to spot. If steps are a problem then access can also be gained via the disabled parking area and through the gardens.
