We would love you to join us....

We'll start by explaining that the Phoenix Club and the P3A are separate entities - to attend our Group more than a few times you have be a P3A member, but you do not have to be a Phoenix Club member (it just might be a good idea).
Anyone can attend our events, or Scottish country dance classes, for a limited number of occasions. If you want to continue (and we hope you do), becoming a P3A member is required, but it is easy and cheap- see below for more details, but just to clarify again...

The Phoenix Club is the location we dance in- to use the Phoenix Club you have to also be a member however you can pay €2 to be a temporary member for a week so...
The cost to attend a Monday dancing session is - Phoenix Club members €2. Others €4
The cost to attend a Tuesday dancing session is - Phoenix Club members €0. Others €2

The P3A is the 'umbrella' organization of which the St Andrew Group is a part. 
To join the classes or attend the Tuesday social evening regularly, even if you are not a dancer, you need P3A membership, the annual cost for that is a €5 initial joining fee plus €5 annual membership fee, renewable in September.​

More about Phoenix Club membership

You don't need to be a Phoenix Club member to come to the dance classes, however it may be cheaper option if you attend regularly.
Visitors to the Phoenix Club  (i.e. anyone who isn't a full member) complete a form and pay €2 for a week's Temporary Membership (this is immediately passed onto the Phoenix Club, it is not retained by our group).
Annual membership of the Phoenix Club is €42 ( €3.50 per month) renewable May/June. 
(New members are charged a Pro Rata rate - the amount is displayed on the noticeboard to the right of the bar). Membership forms are available in the Phoenix Club and need to be completed every time you rejoin. Membership of the Phoenix Club does not negate the need to join the P3A as this is a completely separate organization.

More about P3A membership

 Clarification of the requirement for P3A membership €5 joining fee & €5 annual levy. :-
If you aren't familiar with the P3A (it stands for Paphos 3rd Age - an adaptation of 'University of the 3rd Age'), it acts as an umbrella organisation in Paphos under which various interest groups can legally operate. The St Andrew Society joined with them, and became the St Andrew Group, after the Cyprus government changed the laws governing 'societies'. People attending any of the many P3A 'Groups' have to be P3A members (there are insurance issues as well as legal ones), although there are allowances made for infrequent visitors and for people just wanting to initially try out an activity before committing.
​ F.Y.I. As a P3A group we cannot accumulate or hold funds, any door or event fees we charge are used directly to cover the hire of a venue, the cost of catering, and legitimate expenses such as ticket printing, domain fees etc. This is constantly under review and surplus is spent on providing reduced costs for members attending classes or events. Event discounts are available to P3A members who are regular attendees of the Monday Beginners, or Tuesday social and dance evenings.
​To clarify even further:-
1 - If you aren't a P3A member you can attend several times, while you decide if you want to continue, or if you are just a brief visitor to the island and unable to justify joining - but  you do this at your own risk.
2 - It's actually far cheaper to join the P3A than it was to join the former Society!  In days gone by the annual St Andrew Society membership was €15, P3A membership is only €5 to renew.
There is a P3A joining fee of an additional €5, but you don't have to pay that again if you keep up your membership.
3 -To join the P3A the link is HERE, however if you come to either class we can put your application in for you if you don't want to do it yourself.
4 - As a P3A member you can attend lots of different groups, you are not restricted to just the St Andrew Group events - though we are the best of course!
Once you are a P3A member event discounts are available if you are a regular attendee of our classes.
​As far as the criteria to join in with our particular Group is concerned, a quote from our previous membership form is below:-
​Any age. nationality, background, ability, gender, or if you are single or partnered - as long as you are vaguely human with an interest in Scotland and / or Scottish Country Dancing you'll fit in fine. You might be a bit uncomfortable if you are stuffy, fussy or want to look important, but no matter, we can probably whip you into shape if you are willing to stick with us for a while, just be prepared to talk a lot, dance a lot (if you want to) and laugh a lot - we really do!

P3A memberships run from September to September, they will send out reminders when membership renewals are due, membership of our group is dependant on your maintaining your P3A membership.

Benefits of being a P3A member then attending our St Andrew Group classes or social night - 

• we celebrate the traditional Scottish events of Burns Night and St Andrew's Night as well as many other varied social occasions throughout the year- members get discount for most events - on average you only have to attend  one discounted event to get your P3A membership money back.
• many events are over subscribed; membership (and inclusion on our mailing list) allows you to hear about what is happening earlier and gives you preference for tickets.
• membership mailing list entry - keeping you up to date with events and happenings
• shouting rights at our group meeting … always good to have your say.
• being part of a vibrant Group that appreciates every single one of their members.
