What a brilliant night! Such a lot of fun - despite missing so many friends due to colds, holidays and the really, really horrible weather most of those that could make it, did, and over 20 of us got together and had a really super night. It's difficult to describe if you weren't there but there were enough people up for all the dances (all danced to Christmas music - but played by a Scottish band) to really work ... the floor resounded with squeals of laughter ... manic moments when the guys found they'd both lost their partners and made do with each other ... whizzing round the floor in Borrowdale Exchange looking for folk we hadn't danced with yet and enjoying a night where the 8 year old (unless she's had a birthday since we saw her last) had as much fun as the 80 year olds. Thanks too to our entertainers, brilliantly funny music from Doug, foot tapping nostalgia from Doris & Janet and my bits of comic poetry were 2 Scottish dance inspired pieces from the amazing pen of a lady called Pat Batt (look up more of her poems on the RSCDS London website) and the Turkey Tale, a donation from Eddie back in the UK. Mulled wine (absolutely delicious) was very generously donated by our 'caretaker' Alan who has always looked after us so well and as usual the combined culinary contributions of all the members resulted in a fantastic spread of food to enjoy with the drinks donated by the society. All in all it was an excellent final night for dancing in 2018. I hope to see everyone again soon when we restart in January (7th - beginners class, 8th Social dancing) One more thing - I must also say thank you for my lovely gift - we did manage to get it home intact! PS don't forget to contact Irene if you want to put your name down for Burns Night - Saturday January 19th 2019 - members only until Jan 31st, after that the book opens to non-members; almost half the tickets are already reserved and numbers are limited so don't let yourself be disappointed.
