Memories of our 'Tattoo' Nights

A visit to the 2025 Edinburgh Military Tattoo - on Saturday 11th April 2026

A few pictures of the beginning of the evening (it was too dark to take shots during the show). More general info is also found below. This was a very successful evening with 33 attending including many who can't make it to the dance classes- thanks go to Gavin who organised the buffet and everyone else who helped, including John who assisted organising the tables in the morning.

The chance to use the Phoenix Club's huge projection screen again was too good to miss. The 2025 Tattoo had been visited by members of the group and was described as 'fabulous'. We can't all manage a trip to Scotland, but seeing it on a big screen is a great way to experience it - not quite the real thing but with no chance of being rained on and much, much cheaper!

A Trip to the 2024 Tattoo - on February 25th 2025

Just €10 contribution gave us an excellent buffet meal and a free beverage (generously sponsored by Blevins Franks). After an excellent presentation from BF and a really impressive buffet spread we headed to Edinburgh for an hour to enjoy the pageantry of the fabulous Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Thanks to the huge projection screen available to us at the Phoenix Club the experience was far beyond what you could achieve in your own living room!

We were grateful to Blevins Franks who sponsored the night and provided us with an update on the financial implications of laws being newly implemented in the UK - it was very clearly and succinctly explained (without a huge sales pitch) and was very well received by the audience - Thank you Nick.
And, as always a bit thanks to the wonderful volunteers of the Phoenix Club who provided us with a fabulous buffet spread as well as manning (or is it 'womanning') the bar as always.

6th April 2024
- After a break of several years we finally returned to the Tattoo...

Once more we utilized the excellent facilities of the Phoenix Club and the generous services of the volunteers who run it - not only on the evening itself but during the afternoon to set the room and equipment up.
It is several years since we've organised a purely social evening based around the Edinburgh Tattoo. Our dancers not only showed an interest but brought their friends, and with members of the Phoenix Club also joining us, nearly 30 eventually assembled. After our 'butties and chip' supper, and a last frantic run on the bar, the lights went out and we spent an awe inspiring hour on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. The experience was enhanced by the size of the projection screen which is enormous, and excellent sound quality, giving us an almost immersive experience.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures - but that in itself shows how engrossing the film was.
Once we'd caught our breath, replenished our drinks and enjoyed a couple of trailers for the Club's upcoming Film Nights, we completed the evening with a 'jolly good sing-song'. Well done everyone who joined in and who created such a fun end to the evening. We have to thank Tina for selecting the songs, preparing the lyrics and leading us all beautifully. She also treated us to a couple of solos, which was way more than we expected and truly made the evening special.
